Volunteer as a Driver for Community Fridges.

We have this as a separate webpage because drivers have been essential to the growth of community fridges in the tri-state area!

Learn about how Driving for Community Fridges Works:

If you have access to a vehicle, we are looking for help picking up food from various locations and delivering it to community fridges. Drivers are our most needed volunteers at this time. Fill out this form and once contacted you can join one of our Signal or Whatsapp groups.

Some people sign up for a regular pick-up at a set time each week, but we also need flexible drivers who can sometimes pick things up at short notice. We use Signal and Whatsapp groups to coordinate.

Where do you pick up and drop off?:

Many places have begun to donate good food that would otherwise go to waste. Pickups are available most days from co-ops, warehouses, schools, grocery stores, personal donations, and other food assistance groups. Being a driver is easy! Once drivers pick up, you will either be directed to the fridge in need or more likely it is the driver’s choice. You will have the option to go to your most convenient fridges to distribute. Our pick-ups are in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and sometimes in Long Island and New Jersey.

Why help as a driver:

All of these food resources are incredibly important to New York City communities. We need drivers to close the gap between food waste and getting great food to community fridges throughout the city. There are chances to help everywhere!

See our donations and volunteer page for other ways to get involved with community fridges, food shares, and the In Our Hearts Network. We can use your help!
